The clock is officially ticking on the largest cryptographic migration in human history

In June 2025 (EO 14144), the administration favored voluntary industry adoption for quantum security.
That era is over. On June 22nd, 2026, the White House signed EO 14412 (“Securing the Nation Against Advanced Cryptographic Attacks”), forcing strict, binding compliance.
Why the sudden shift? Because of two massive national security threats:
SNDL (Store Now, Decrypt Later):Adversaries are harvesting encrypted data today, warehousing it until quantum tech can crack it.
EPER (Encrypt with PQC and Enforce Ransom): A devastating new ransomware tactic where hackers weaponize unbreakable post-quantum algorithms againstvictims, making standard recovery tools useless.
The White House explicitly stated the urgency:
“Though the quantum computers that exist today are still in development, a breakthrough could come soon… [We must] safeguard America’s most sensitive data, our critical infrastructure, and the digital economy.
